    Born as the eldest son of the 7th Kobei Kato and grand son of Takuo Kato

  • 1998

    Graduated Kyoto Seika University Faculty of art, Department of Ceramics

  • 2000

    Graduated Master Ceramics course in Craft of Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts

  • 2001

    Entered the family business, Kobei Pottery

  • 2002

    Built a flame-reducing kiln by himself

      The 5th Solo Exhibition by Ryotaro Kato

      We are honored to announce Ryotaro Kato’s 5th solo exhibition at Nihombashi Takashimaya.

      This exhibition will feature a new collection of works fired in an anagama kiln, centered around tea bowls in various traditional and signature glazes such as Shino, Hikidashi-guro, Oribe, Ruri-guro, Tsubakide, and Jukushi, alongside flower vases, sake vessels, and ceramic panels. We warmly invite you to visit the venue, hold the pieces in your hands, and view them up close.

      I am pleased to present my second solo exhibition at Kyoto Takashimaya.
      This exhibition features new works centered on tea bowls created through anagama firing, showcasing a variety of techniques including Shino, Oribe, Hikidashi-guro, and more.

      My first solo exhibition in the US will be held at Joan B Mirviss LTD, a historic gallery in New York.
      The exhibition will feature 27 new works highlighting six of my captivating glazing styles, including flower vases and tea bowls, as well as two calligraphy works.
