Persia and Mino: A Far-Reaching Journey — Reflections on the Father-and-Son Exhibition Reflecting on the “7th-Generation Kato Kobei and Ryotaro Kato Father-and-Son Exhibition” at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi—held for the first time in five years—this looks back on two milestones: the father’s eightieth year and the son’s fiftieth.
Ryotaro Kato’s ceramic exhibition “Echoes of Flame” was held in Singapore from 6th to 14th of December 2024. The venue, HULS Gallery Singapore, is located in Duxton Hill, where have high-end shops and restaurants in line. In the everlasting summer sunshine, I walked through the gorgeous cityscape and stepped into the gallery on the hilltop. I met the world of Japanese traditional Momoyama pottery in a quiet and tranquil space. Next international stage of the artist – new inspirations and challenges are about to begin.
In the Autum of 2024, “the special exhibition: Ryotaro Kato Hanpaku Memorial Exhibition” was held at Tamesaburo Memorial Museum in Furukawa Art Museum. It was the year of milestone of his turning 50 years old. This exhibition was a monumental his solo exhibition that expressed the full scope of his creative activities, focusing on tea bowls made from Japanese traditional Mino-Momoyama pottery style such as Shino white, Setoguro black, and Oribe green which are Japanese traditional pottery styles. Looking back on his career, we asked him about the beginning of a new chapter as an artist.
