About the exhibition
The first museum exhibition of Ryotaro Kato in the Autumn 2024 when it is the anniversary year of his 50 years old, called “Hanpaku”.
The museum Tamesaburo memorial in Furukawa Art Museum has a Japanese traditional house in Sukiya-style, garden and tea rooms. The Japanese traditional buildings and atmosphere were used as exhibition rooms.
His large object was located at the entrance and 50 tea bowls were exhibited in the main room with garden-view. Each tea bowl was named by the potter.
As an installation art, his works were located in the museum, calligraphy in the tokonoma alcove, flower vases on the side alcove, incense containers in the living room, ceramic panel series which is fusion of calligraphy and ceramic in the tea room.
The exhibition focused on tea bowls made from Japanese traditional Mino-Momoyama styled ceramics such as Shino, Setoguro, and Oribe. It was a monumental solo exhibition that expressed his full range of wide creative activities.
